COBA's company in 'Doun Doun Dance'
COBA Reference: Ku-Ku
KuKu was initially a ritual dance but has since grown into one of the more popular social dances of West Africa. This popular rhythm, played at all kinds of festivals including full moon celebrations, embodies the character of the people who perform it, most notably the Bayla peoples of Malinke in Guinea. KuKu can also be found in Western African countries including Senegal and the Ivory Coast. Kuku is a women's dance performed in a circle. Originally, the rhythm was played when the women came back from fishing. They would take their fishing tools and dance.
