Kwanza
Msingwana was born in South Afrika, this eclectic artist (he is a writer, actor and
storyteller) was raised in Tanzania. Kwanza has been a resident of Toronto since 1986,
where he has performed widely with both local and visiting groups and artists. A long time
percussionist, he has participated in WOMAD (with Mohamed Bangura-Guinea; Farafina Burkina
Faso and Remmy Ongala and Orchestra Matimila-Tanzania, among others. He has jammed with
the jazz giant Randy Weston (at the Jazz In The Alley festival in Chicago, Illinois). He
also played with David Robeson; the New York based grandson of the famous baritone, actor
and human rights activist Paul Robeson. Kwanza collects folktales for children. He is
currently working on a book of short stories based on his travels and life experiences.CLOSE WINDOW
